Dive into Drawing

Our Ages 5–6 drawing class is a fun and colourful introduction to drawing. Children explore simple skills like shapes, lines and textures through playful projects that feel more like “making” than formal lessons.

We use lots of kid-friendly tools—oil pastels, sketching & watercolour pencils, charcoal and paint sticks — so young artists can experiment freely.

Projects are short, hands-on and joyful, with plenty of choice and movement to suit younger attention spans. The focus is on building confidence, trying new things and enjoying the process, not creating perfect drawings.

This class is gentle, relaxed and full of creativity. A lovely first step for young children who love to draw and make art.

Please note – no class Monday 9th March, 2025
(Labour Day)

Dive into Drawing

Our Ages 7–9 drawing class offers a great combination of learning new drawing skills and keeping art fun, playful and creative. Children at this age can focus for longer and are ready for more technique, but still enjoy exploring and adding their own ideas.

We’ll introduce simple techniques like shading, proportion, perspective and observation — through engaging, child-friendly projects that cover a variety of styles and subjects. In Term 1, artists will explore character design, flip-book animations, practise linework with ink, draw still life objects, zoom in on textures like fur or scales and play with patterns and abstract ideas inspired by artists such as Joan Miró.

Our teachers will pair mediums, techniques and skills with space for each artist’s imagination, personal choices and their own drawing style to shine through. This class helps kids build confidence, develop foundational skills and enjoy the process of making art.

Commencing Wednesday 4th February – Wednesday 1st April

Dive into Drawing

Our Ages 10+ class is perfect for young artists who want to deepen their skills, learn new techniques and grow their own artistic style. Whether they’re beginners or already drawing constantly at home, every student is supported at their own level.

We explore more detailed and expressive drawing skills — things like shading, texture, depth, accurate observation, perspective and working from references. Students also learn practical approaches such as using grids to improve proportions, sketching anatomy and faces, and layering colour with pencils to create smooth blends and rich detail.

Projects are varied and inspiring. In Term 1, artists will dive into close-up flower studies inspired by Georgia O’Keeffe, design symbolic self-portraits in the style of Frida Kahlo, explore reflections and light, and work on imaginative concept designs and illustrated stories.

This class is relaxed, fun and welcoming — a space where older kids can challenge themselves, try new materials and begin (or continue) shaping a drawing style they feel proud of.

Commencing Wednesday 4th February – Wednesday 1st April

Thursdays

artists-lead-the-way-5-13

Artists, Lead the Way!

An open studio art class where artists come to work on their own ideas, art inspiration and/or take inspiration from the materials, a picture book, conversation, important events, prompts, examples or ideas on offer in the studio. This class is perfect for artists who have lots of ideas of their own and often know exactly what they would like to create.

Within each session artists will also be introduced to a new skill, technique or material in the form of a mini-lesson. The purpose of this is to continue to stretch and broaden their artmaking skills, so that they can continue to bring new materials and techniques into their own ideas.

Commencing Thursday 5th February – Thursday 2nd April

TEEN PAINTING

Painting Around the World

Artists will be introduced to a range of techniques, processes, skills and styles throughout the term. They will explore art history and context, taking inspiration from many different artists, cultures and time periods. Artists will draw upon what they are learning, their own ideas and their developing personal style to create a variety of artworks throughout the term. There will be oodles of opportunity to experiment, try new things and develop their skills.
